Give peace, that is, continue and preserve it; give peace, that is, give us hearts worthy of it, and thankful for it. In our time, that is, all our time: for there is more besides a fair morning required to make a fair day.

First Saturday Art Crawl ...come to Twist Gallery

Opening March 1:
Rachel Hall Kirk's installation
"The Big Payback"

Join us for the opening reception and First Saturday Gallery Crawl, Saturday, March 1 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Rachel Hall Kirk is a native Tennessean. She studied painting and drawing at Austin Peay State University and The University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She currently resides in Ashland City and teaches art at Austin Peay in Clarksville.

Her installation explores ideas about society and status. She says, "In The Big Payback I turn the tables on those who are normally given a free ride by exposing them for who they really are: naked and scared, just like the rest of us."

"Nobody think I gotta right to be tough
They don't like it when I get rough
Bert saw me comin', tried to hide
Teacher went down like she wanted to cry
Guards and doctors ain't ready, thats a fact
Get ready little chumps for the big payback
You know who you are
You're gonna get your big payback!"

Inspired by James Brown's song Payback

THE BIG PAYCHECK Nashville’s go-to destination for installation art, Twist Gallery presents a new environment for your approval: local artist Rachel Hall Kirk’s The Big Payback. Kirk’s recent “Arts in the Airport” show featured the outstanding graphite portraits she is known for. With Payback, she abandons her pencils to create a multimedia installation that turns the tables on every bully she’s encountered through her life. In the process, she also manages to fire off a few shots in favor of good, old-fashioned class warfare. March 1-29 at Twist Gallery; opening reception 6-9 p.m. —JOE NOLAN
