Human Sacrifice: A Meditation on The Atonement, Daily Life and The Death Penalty

The sacrifice of human life permeates religion and society, and neither the judeo-christian tradition nor our modern culture are exempt.

From Abraham's offering of Isaac on a heap of dry wood to God's offering of Himself on the cross,

from the atonement for sin on the cross to lives lost to powerful forces of addiction and needless need,

from the laying down one's life for the sake of others to the taking of life as a punishing witness for the community,

we are active participants in age old traditions where our actions intersect the sacrifice of human life good, bad, wrong, right, holy and profane.

We are seeking local artists to help us to explore the lenten season, the 40 non-feast days before easter in the church calendar. Human Sacrifice: A Meditation on The Atonement, Daily Life and The Death Penalty is our theme for the 2007 lenten D.I.G. Through Art show. D.I.G. (Dialogue: an Interaction for Growth) art shows are an open invitation to artists of all backgrounds to enter into a discussion of themes through art and dialogue in hope that the church would be open to see, hear and interact with the themes as well. That's it. We welcome what you bring to the table. The only restriction is that we be able to display the work to the children of the church and the surrounding community. Please consider being a part of this show.

Artists are welcomed to submit one work in any medium. However, we ask that the dimensions not exceed 6 x 10 ft. Sculptured art must be moveable and pedestals should be arranged with the church or provided by the artist. Installations must be approved for space reasons.

Work must be delivered on or by Thursday, March 1st, 2007 dry, framed and ready to be displayed, hung or mounted. THIS MEANS ALL WORK MUST HAVE ANCHORS FOR WIRE TO HANG ON A WALL OR A PEDESTAL PROVIDED BY THE ARTIST. Artists will be accepted on a basis of the first to respond with their entry fee and contact information (please see below).

There are no restrictions on your work except that the content be suitable to all ages, since it will be on display to our entire church body and the downtown community young and old. Please note that t he church reserves the right to not show any work.

There will be a purchase award of $1000.00.
